A hand-pieced quilt

So my latest hand-piecing of a quilt has come to an end and I'm a little bit sad.



There is something especially soothing about hand-piecing a scrappy quilt.


It's a mindless, relaxing kind of monotony.


I fussy cut the centres.


And then after that sort of kept to dark to mid value fabrics around the fussy cut and then light values for the background.


Each block may be the same shape but the use of fabrics and colours makes it seem like I am piecing a new block each time.

And it really doesn't take that long before you have enough blocks to make a quilt.

I think I started this the beginning of May and with lots of breaks along the way, by end July it is assembled.

    I love your quilt. Like you, I love hand piecing. I find it so relaxing. I love the scrappy look of your quilt too. I'm going to have to give this one a try. I didn't understand how to print off the pattern, but think I have a copy and will enlarge it. Thanks for the idea. Beautiful quilt.

    Oh my...spectacular. Wow. The fabrics are wonderful, fussy cutting perfect and the handstitching....REALLY?! All of this by hand!?! Yikes. Amazing.

    Your quilts are spectacular. I just love how they turn out. They often remind me of Kaffe Fassett style, without the Kaffe. ;-) So, the question remains - will you handpiece another?

    Love! I think I am going to have to try some hand piecing - got to see if it is really easier/funner/more efficient than English paper piecing.

    And I keep getting these crazy urges to make a baby quilt for new baby George, but I keep telling myself that you Brits have that all under control and how many quilts does he really need? :)

    That is exactly how I feel about hand piecing. It is the process which is so special to me so when people want to hurry me with a machine,or fast techniques I cant understand that.

    This quilt is amazingly beautiful! Did you design the blocks themselves? If not, what is the block called? This has been one of those quilts that I have returned to again and again to admire. Really beautiful!
