Robbing Peter to pay Paul

There has been a lot of this these past few days

which has allowed me to concentrate on this.

I made it bigger in an effort to get through some more of my scraps, including some that had clearly been hanging around for longer than I remembered.

Then I decided to quilt it in a diagonal grid pattern with just an inch between each line so it wasn't long before this popped up on my machine's screen.

Several squirts later and I was done.

And then we ventured outside for a spot of photography.

With a semi-willing photographer's assistant who saw no need to put shoes on.

I'm thinking an orange and purple quilt would be quite striking.

The back is just one piece of fabric I'd had for ages that was big enough.
Job done.

The shoeless photographer's assistant proceeded to walk across a wet, grassy field.

By which time the photographer was feeling slightly twitchy but managing not to say anything in lieu of the help being received.

But then the photographer caved in and resorted to the trusty photographer's standby - the washing line.

And although the light levels were not as good, it did show the quilting off better and equilibrium was restored.

'Robbing Peter to pay Paul'? It is apparently the name of the quilt block I used in this quilt.

I guess there is nothing new under the quilting sun rain.
Just variations on a theme.

(Blocks were made with Jenny's Quick Curve Ruler)

  1. what a NICE quilt I love the bright colors and that you string pieced it, what a great idea, are the curves appliqued on? or a template?

  2. Very lovely quilt- loving the socks too! I'm glad you had enough light to get out and do some photography, it has been so dull here for the last three weeks, dull and wet. Daren't even set foot in our soggy garden!

  3. I am in love with this quilt! In fact I was thinking of it yesterday, there is a version of the pattern in the new Denyse Schmidt book although she constructed hers all differently and only used two solid colours. Her's is called Orange Peel and she tells a great story about the history of the design. I am hoping for some time to make a version of my own.

  19. Ah...we have hit summer thunderstorm weather here too. At least I don't have to water the garden. :)

I love "feeling slightly twitchy but managing not to say anything..." I feel that way so many times with my kids. Going outside in socks, taking their blanket into the bathroom with them, playing with balloons (I hate that balloon rubbing sound)...the list goes on...

LOVE the quilt and quilting. Fun scraps and backing. The orange and purple do look good together.
