My entry to the Park City Girl Quilt Festival
Woah - I've started a blog just so I can enter Park City Girl Quilt Festival!
It's a coin baby quilt for a work colleague who is due in the next couple of weeks. I entered it in our local agricultural show in August under the 'patchwork and quilting' section and it came first! I shouldn't shout that one too loudly from the rooftops though as I was only up against one other entrant!! The backing is a flannel black and white cow hide looking print. Machined pieced and hand quilted.
I live on a small island between England and France. There is no quilt shop, a very tiny fabric shop with about a dozen or so quilting fabrics and hardly any other quilters that I am aware of. Myself and another friend started the island's only quilt group about 6/7 years ago but we meet irregularly and struggle to get attendance into double digits.
So........practically all of my inspiration and fabric needs are met online.

Are you from the Channel Islands? I just finished reading the Guernsey Literary Society (etc.) and when I read your post, I wondered. We love England, but we also love France (having traveled there several times on both.)
ReplyDeleteI think your group is all quite brave and would love to encourage you to hang in there and keep going. Quilting is such a satisfying art, as witnessed by your win (congratulations!) and your lovely coin quilt. And congrats also on starting a blog. It will be fun to return again and again to see your life unfold as you write about quilting and living there (if that's what you decided to do).
Again--thanks for jumping in and posting!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am from Germany and I know where Guernsey is ;-) , although I never was there. I hope that someday I will, because I heared that the cannel islands are very nice.
Isn´t it good that we have the internet for inspiration and for buying fabrics? :-)
Keep quilting, and congratulations to your new blog! Mine is quite new, too.
Greetings from Germany, Steffi
Your quilt is stunning. Hopefully you can shop on the internet!!!

Your quilt is beautiful. I love your color choices.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really fun that you started a blog just so that you could show your quilt! I love what you did with it and think it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI also read the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and wondered the same thing as Letterpress until you commented back (usually when I want to reply to a comment I go and comment on the other person's blog, but I don't think this is how everyone does it). After reading that book, I can see Guernsey being a place I'd visit one day. have you tried ordering fabrics online? I often do that because it can be difficult to get the types of fabric I really love in Canada.
Wonderful fabric, fabulous job, beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI guess now I am going to have to read Gernsey Literary too.
Hello in Guernsey and welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Your coin quilt is lovely, those colours are so soothing, ideal for a baby. Come and see me on my blog sometime, I'm in Lincolnshire, http://shiny4444.blogspot.com/2009/10/tukusan-tsugi.html
