Progress with a capital 'P'

I continued cutting up strippy, scrappy squares.

All it is, is strips of fabric (didn't matter about the width), sewn together to create an 8 1/2" square. Then I used the curved ruler to take out a section on either side. Took some black and white fabric 8 1/2" x 3", cut the corresponding missing wodges out of that and sewed them back on to the coloured squares.

Randomly placed in so much as I tried to get an even spread of colour throughout the quilt and the blocks alternate vertical and horizontal with the strips.

I still can't quite work out though how I seem to have more and not less scraps at the end of this exercise in scrap busting.

I've reached a hiatus now as I consider whether to make it bigger, add a border of some sort, or finish it as is.

Any thoughts?

  3. I'd go a little bit bigger no border or skinny contrast border and outer border in one or several of your grey fabrics!

Whatever you decide it will be fabulous though!

    Love it so far!

  4. Lov eit so far! I think a little bigger would be fab, and I can see a a bright blue (like your blocks) or red, thin border around it.

  5. It looks great. Who needs EQ8 when you are always a step ahead of me and I can just look at yours to see if I like it? (I do).

  8. I'd continue to a total of 48 blocks (6x8) and add a border of black & white fabric (approx. 4-5" wide) to finish the top. That's just my idea about it.
Great work you've done so far...

  11. I get more excited about what you come up with...than what I come up with ;o)..I like it A LOT~~ Maybe for your border...you could finish off the curve...so your circles come out..and then add another black/white border so your curved blocks look like they are floating..what ever you do will be fantastic!

  12. Gorgeous! Love this. And yes; I've noticed that sometimes my scrapbusting quilts end up giving me MORE SCRAPS...but at least, they're together, sewn, and um,organized?? Heh. Have a great weekend!

  13. Please make it bigger so we can see more of your gorgeous blocks! And how about a flange of one of the bright solids (lime green? Electric blue? That lovely orange?!) and then a border of one of the black and white fabrics (or rectangles of lots of them if you don't have enough of one) and then bind in the same colour as the flange (ugh, I hate that word!). Whatever you decide will be great though!

  15. wow! what an incredible quilt! the colors seem to be trying to come up off of the quilt to speak to you.:) i might would make it a bit bigger, but whatever, i think a strong graphic (maybe black and white checkerboard) border would be a great finish. however--you are the master, obviously!!

  18. what an awesome design. i think a border might work too. Maybe black to frame it all.

  19. No thoughts on size, but I think this would look great with a scalloped edge - not necessarily a border, just more curved wedges matching the fabrics of the blocks on the edges of the top.

  20. Bigger is better when something is this lovely and you still have fabric to continue with it!

  22. great colours and use of black and whites. I'd vote for leaving it as it is, or finding some print to use as a border.

  23. Bigger or not: I'd say it depends on who or what it's for.
If that is yet unknown, the I'd say add a border. (in fact I just said it)
I love this one: colous, scrappyness and the orangepeel shapes= yummie!

  30. I collect my tiny scraps and those I cant bear to cut up anymore and rotary cut them up fine(two handed) then give them to a fellow quilter who uses them for stuffing in dog beds for a prison group that trains assistance dogs.

  31. Scraps breed like rabbits. It's a fact. I would go bigger, no border. It looks awesome!!!!!
