Soy Amado Johannesburg Update

The first batch of quilts have arrived at the children's home in Johannesburg.

I am hugely, hugely appreciative that the end result looks like this.

But also a little bit sad in the sense that it is 'just' quilts and I wish I could do more.

I will continue to do this for as long as people send me blocks.

Which I hope you will.

Because I realise that in some ways they are more than 'just' quilts.

They are a representation that people around the world do care and we are all trying to help in the little ways that we can, with the skills we possess.

Thank you for helping me get this far.

  6. THANK YOU, ALISON!!! You ARE amazing and so very loving and giving. I am going to get up off of this sofa and go quilt some of the blocks in the stack I started for you some time ago, before life got in the way. I sent you 80 or 90 blocks about a year ago, I think. I wish it was not so expensive to ship from USA... I also have a bunch of binding strips (leftovers I asked for and received from a few of the other quilters in my guild, and a bunch of the sashing strips in both sizes. I can't promise i will get these to you soon, but I AM going to go and quilt a few right now. LOVE these photos, love these quilts, love what you are doing! xo

  8. Once I've finished the king size quilt I'm making for my niece I'll be able to send you some more blocks. I wish I could send whole quilts, but the postage from Australia would bankrupt me - I have sewing skills but not much money! I am so happy to see that all your hard work is well paid in smiles and glad children... Thank you for being the leading light that inspires the rest of us to get up off our backsides and do something.

  16. Throw is simply beautiful. And "just quilts" have their place, too. Love comes in many languages and souls need more than just food or warmth sometimes. Well done!

  20. One thing that stands out - that you are doing something amazing by giving these children beauty. Beauty means so much when you are poor and have little. These quilts bring warmth and love and beauty to kids that may not have had much of any of these things. Thank you - you do a lot more than you think by giving beauty and cheer as well as warmth and practicality. These quilts are vibrant - they look so amazing on the beds - they are pure love.

  22. Those beautiful quilts for those precious children....I could look at them all day. The Mexico pictures of their colorful little beds with the colorful little quilts is so special. A handmade quilt is about the closest expression there is to tangible love. My email address is lauriegriz@aol.com if you could send me your address in the event I get a quilt ready for this. Thank-you and bless you in your wonderful ministry.
